NFARL Sparks Young Minds with Hands-On Ham Radio Fun at Kittredge Magnet School!

Get ready to feel a surge of pride, NFARL members! Our recent outreach event at Kittredge Magnet School was an incredible success, showcasing the fun and educational aspects of amateur radio to a bright group of young learners.

On March 26th, NFARL volunteers enthusiastically welcomed 32 eager students from Kittredge Magnet School, along with their 5th-grade science teacher, Charamie DeMarco "W5FRM," for an engaging introduction to the world of ham radio [User Query]. The focus of the day? Learning to solder and construct our very own Code Practice Oscillator kits!

A fantastic team of NFARL Elmers – Mike Riley, Wayne Garber, Dave Bisciotti, Martha Muir, Lee Johnson, and even Charamie's husband (a newly licensed Technician!) – guided the students through the process. Working in small groups of three, each student received personalized attention as they carefully built and tested their electronic kits.

The students weren't just learning to solder; they were also introduced to the fascinating world of Morse Code and discovered how to operate the code practice oscillators they had assembled. It was a fantastic opportunity to blend hands-on technical skills with the history and utility of radio communication.

The enthusiasm in the room was palpable! It's hard to say who had more fun – the engaged students or our dedicated NFARL instructors. This event was a wonderful reminder of the joy of sharing our hobby and exposing young people to the exciting possibilities within amateur radio.

This initiative perfectly aligns with NFARL's commitment to education and community involvement. By connecting with schools and offering hands-on learning experiences, we're not only sparking an interest in STEM fields but also potentially inspiring the next generation of ham radio operators .

Let's keep this momentum going! Share this exciting news with your friends and neighbors and encourage anyone interested in learning more about NFARL to reach out. This is a fantastic example of the positive impact our club has on the community.
