πŸ” Deep Dive: What We Are Doing

1. The DBJ-2 J-Pole Antenna Project

We will be building a dual-band J-Pole antenna optimized for 2m and 70cm. The design is based on the famous QST magazine article by Ed Fong, WB6IQN:

Why build it? If you are looking for an inexpensive, high-performance antenna that drastically outperforms a stock rubber duck antenna, this is it. It can be used as a permanent base station antenna or rolled up for portable emergency use.

2. CHIRP Programming (Bring Your Radio!)

Don’t struggle with manual programming. Bring your radio (and programming cable if you have one), and we will provide the CHIRP downloads to instantly configure your radio with the newly launched NFARL Metro Atlanta Frequency Plan.

This upload includes:

  • NFARES emergency channels.

  • High-use local repeaters.

  • All essential repeaters within a 25-mile radius of Metro Atlanta.

3. Repeater Operating Hints & Etiquette

New to the hobby and feeling a bit mic-shy? We’ve got you covered. We’ll run through a quick tutorial on how to properly check into repeaters, join conversations, and navigate local net protocols with confidence.
