Dummy Load Wattmeter Workshop Progress Update
Just wanted to share some exciting progress from our recent workshop sessions! Last Friday, we had a productive meeting with Dave, Don, Roy, and Lee. We focused on fine-tuning our device across a range of power levels, from a low 5 watts all the way up to a robust 100 watts. A big thank you to Don for bringing all the necessary calibration equipment – it was invaluable! In other great news, we’ve decided to move forward with 3D printing custom boxes for our project! These will be made available to everyone in the workshop. Things are really coming together, […]

Continue readingRound 2: NFARL Supports Kittredge Magnet School’s Ham Radio Activities
On March 27th and April 3rd, NFARL volunteers helped thirty-two students at Kittredge Magnet School complete their Code Practice Oscillator (CPO) kits. This was the second time we’ve had the opportunity to support Kittredge’s ham radio efforts — and it was just as rewarding as the first! During two build sessions, students learned basic soldering skills, assembled their CPO kits, tested their devices, and practiced sending their first Morse code. Our NFARL volunteer mentors included Mike Riley, Dave Bisiotti, Ted Maklin, and Lee Johnson. The following week, Ian and Wes organized an FCC Technician license testing session for the students. […]
Continue readingARES Lantern Parade and XMIT Vara HF
This past Tuesday (April 8, 2025), the North Fulton ARES held its monthly meeting. The venue was a bit different this time. Instead of the traditional seated meeting, it was held outdoors to observe a couple of stations setting up to transmit data to a simulated served agency that had been collected the previous weekend. The ARES team had supported the annual Sandy Springs Lantern Parade several days earlier. As in past years, ARES was instrumental in providing communication support to Sandy Springs Fire Corps and reducing the need for 911 calls related to minor issues. NF ARES thanks NFARL for […]
Continue readingNFARL Island Picnic – Join Us on May 10th!
NFARL is keeping the tradition going with our annual picnic and on-the-air fun at Lake Lanier! We’re once again participating in the U.S. Islands Awards Program—a unique amateur radio program that celebrates activating and chasing river, lake, and ocean shore islands across the U.S. It’s a fun and affordable way to go on a mini-DXpedition without traveling far from home. Each year, U.S. Islands hosts two major events: the One-Day Getaway (1DG) and the W/VE Island QSO Party. Thanks to club member Terry Joiner (W4YBV), NFARL has been a proud participant in both. To celebrate the One-Day Getaway, we’re heading […]
