Kittredge School Radio Club Builds FM Radios! 📻

The Kittredge Magnet School Radio Club is continuing its strong engagement in ham radio and STEM activities, following the successful antenna setup earlier this semester. The club's momentum is growing, with a massive 47 students signed up this year!

To meet this impressive demand and provide a new challenge, teacher Ms. Charamie DeMarco, W5FRM, has introduced a hands-on electronic project: building small FM radio kits!

Soldering Skills and STEM Excitement

The first build session proved to be a huge hit. NFARL volunteers Lee Johnson (N4WYE) and Ted Macklin (K4MPM) assisted Ms. DeMarco and about 15 enthusiastic students.

"Sooo rewarding! Lee (N4WYE) and I (K4MPM) showed up yesterday to help Kittredge Magnet School for high achievers assemble FM radios... They were engaged and excited about the opportunity. Kudos to the teacher Ms. Demarco for taking time to detail the assembly process. It made our job easy!!" — Ted Macklin, K4MPM

The project focuses on teaching students about electronic components and developing crucial soldering skills . With 47 students involved, and kits proving to be a bit more challenging than previous projects, the club has organized multiple sessions to ensure every student gets a great learning experience.

Ms. DeMarco has set up six soldering stations, and the students are working in teams of two. The goal is to have one adult volunteer supervise two stations.

Volunteers Needed for Upcoming Sessions! 🤝

NFARL members are needed to help guide the young builders through their projects and provide hands-on assistance. If you have experience with basic electronics or soldering and can spare an hour, your help would be invaluable!

The school grants access at 2:30 PM, and the sessions run for approximately one hour afterward.
