Round 2: NFARL Supports Kittredge Magnet School’s Ham Radio Activities

On March 27th and April 3rd, NFARL volunteers helped thirty-two students at Kittredge Magnet School complete their Code Practice Oscillator (CPO) kits.
This was the second time we've had the opportunity to support Kittredge's ham radio efforts — and it was just as rewarding as the first!

During two build sessions, students learned basic soldering skills, assembled their CPO kits, tested their devices, and practiced sending their first Morse code.
Our NFARL volunteer mentors included Mike Riley, Dave Bisiotti, Ted Maklin, and Lee Johnson.

The following week, Ian and Wes organized an FCC Technician license testing session for the students. Sixteen sixth graders sat for the exam, and while only two passed, we are proud of all the students for taking the challenge. We hope many will continue studying and come back to test again soon!

Kittredge’s ham radio program is led by teacher Charamie DeMarco, W5FRM, who has also established a fully operational school radio station and the Kittredge Amateur Radio Club.

Thanks again to all the NFARL volunteers for their time, patience, and encouragement — and congratulations to the new hams!

We look forward to continuing to support the next generation of amateur radio operators.
