We hope to see a lot of NFARL folks in Dayton. If you have not been to a Hamvention, you should go. It's by far the largest hamfest in the nation; you will see more vendors there than at any other other gathering of ham radio enthusiasts in the country -- likely larger than any other in the world!
This year, you have two special reasons to attend Hamvention. NFARL has been awarded Hamvention's "Club of the Year" award, and Jim, W4QO has been awarded Hamvention's "Amateur of the Year" award.
Both awards are great honors. We are proud that our club and Jim are being recognized as leaders in amateur radio in the United States. The "Club of the Year" award is extra special because this is the first and only year it is being awarded. #1 will hang on our walls!!
It is wonderful that both are being recognized in the same year given the key role Jim played in supporting the club's resurrection and fostering its growth since.
Listen to what Amateur Radio NEWSLINE had to say about the awards. (6 minute excerpt from their newscast included with permission.)
The awards will be presented at an Awards Dinner on Saturday evening and at the public awards ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in the main arena of the Hara Convention Center.
We hope that many club members and supporters will head to Dayton for the awarding festivities and to visit Hamvention. Details regarding travel, accommodations, and the Hamvention event schedule can be seen at its web site at

If you plan to drive and have open seats, consider organizing a carpool so you will have company along the way and can share costs.

Mack, W4AX and Wes, W3WL played major roles in assembling resources, preparing the nominations for both awards, and shepherding the nominations through to success. Thank you, thank you Mack and Wes!!
