Field Day Bulletin #3
June 9, 2008
The Word is Out!!
Press releases and public service announcements went to the major media outlets in Atlanta today. I sent information to the following:
Radio
Please note, we've already gotten confirmation that the PSA will air on WGST, The Bull 94.9, and WKLS Project 9-6-1. These are all Clear Channel Communications stations. As it turns out, the local public affairs director for Clear Channel is also a ham. So if you run across Chris East, K4HAC, on the air, please be sure to thank him. Also, you may note that conspicuously absent from this list is WSB-AM 750. When I contacted them, I was informed that they do not broadcast PSAs dealing with specific events or that run less than 12 months.
TV
WXIA has already replied that they'll post Field Day on their Community Calendar.
Print Media
I'm awaiting word from Appen Newspapers, which publishes The Alpharetta and Roswell Review and News, The Milton Herald, The Johns Creek Herald, and the Forsyth Herald, regarding where to submit the information.
Elected Officials
In addition to the above media outlets, I sent via snail mail copies of the press release and PSA to the following elected officials:
Governor Sonny Perdue
Senator Johnny Isakson
Senator Saxby Chambliss
Congressman Tom Price (GA Sixth District)
Mayor Jere Wood (Roswell)
Mayor Arthur Letchas (Alpharetta)
Mayor Eva Galambos (Sandy Springs)
Mayor Mike Bodker (Johns Creek)
Mayor Joe Lockwood (Milton)
Hopefully at least one of these officials will schedule time to join us for Field Day.
I want to thank Tom Koch, W4UOC, for getting the publicity information out to the public safety officers of our served municipal organizations. Since he is our EOC and already had these contacts established, he was better able to get the information in front of the right people. I also want to thank our fearless leader, Jim Stafford, W4QO, for taking up the role of button designer. We should have an outstanding button for this year's Field Day.
Finally, please remember we can still use your help to make this Field Day our best ever. We can still use operators for the entire event. When you contact Steve or I to volunteer, please let us know the time you'd like to operate. We'd hate to just plug you in some time, and that turn out to be a time you can't make it. This way we avoid any confusion that results from us playing “pin the ham to the time slot”. Your understanding and assistance is more than appreciated.
Until next time,
73,
Ian, AK4IK
