ARISS Contact

ARISS Contact

A large team of NFARLites led by Daryl K4RGK, Martha W4MSA, John K4SQC and Jim W4QO orchestrated an International Space Station Contact Event at Mill Springs Academy on May 3rd. It was a great event. In addition to three hundred or so Mill Springs Academy students, a group from Fulton Academy of Science and Technology came over to participate.

The MSA students asked questions of the ISS team during the 10 minute radio contact, and learned about the daily lives of astronauts in space.

In addition, a large number of students spent time browsing through techfest style displays of typical ham radio activities including CW, Blue Lightning, Maker activities, HF radio (via a wifi link with an off-site transceiver), and solar powered UHF / VHF radio operations. Jim W4QO orchestrated these displays which were staffed by several dozen MSA students and NFARL volunteers.

Enjoy the photos, and thanks to all who supported the effort.

FYI, a copy of the 45 minute video streamed during the event is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1S3EdFSFfI. There is no audio during the first 21 minutes of the video.
