2009 Field Day Bulletin #4

We are now just under three weeks away from Field Day, and our plans are coming together quite well.  We have our stations planned, generators sourced, and the captains have been hard at work getting things ready.  However, we still need you to come out and support us.  There are still operating positions available on 20m/75m (we'll be moving the 20m station to the 75m band during the overnight hours when 20m is quiet), 6m, and Elmering opportunities at the GOTA station.  If you've been a ham for a while, please consider spending an hour as an Elmer for the GOTA station.  Not only does it demonstrate our desire to share the hobby with others, but we also get bonus points for having Elmers at the GOTA station the whole time it is on the air. If you are eligible to operate at the GOTA station, please sign up for an hour or two of operating there and at another station of your choice. Eligible hams either were licensed since last Field Day or have been generally inactive on the HF bands.  The ARRL defines “generally inactive” as having not made an HF contact of any type in three or more years.  And, of course, if you have friends/neighbors/relatives who are not licensed hams, they are GOTA eligible as well.

Let's also not forget the dinner Saturday night.  Your food chairs, Shelia Staton, KD4NKE, and Lynn Kahn, KJ4DYH, are hard at work preparing for Saturday night's dinner.  We'll have barbecue catered by Spiced Right Barbecue in Roswell, plus hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the trimmings.  Please RSVP to Shelia at kd4nke@nfarl.org if you plan to come to dinner Saturday.  If you come, please also volunteer to bring a side or dessert.

Finally, official proclamations are in the air.  The club already received proclamations from the Cities of Sandy Springs and Roswell.  Next Monday, 15 June, are the last two proclamations from the municipalities in North Fulton County. We will receive recognitions from the Cities of Milton (6:00 PM) and Alpharetta (7:30 PM) at their regular City Council meetings.  I want to encourage everyone to come out and show your support for the club as the cities we support recognize and support us.

Thanks to everyone for your support of the club and of Field Day.  Until next time,

73,

Ian, AK4IK
