Field Day Bulletin #6

Special Edition

June 12, 2008

Public Relations Update

We got a huge PR shot in the arm today.  The City of Sandy Springs officially endorsed NFARL's Field Day activities by sending out a press release specifically mentioning our activities and encouraging people to come visit us.  This went to every media outlet in their database.  I fully expect their press release to get more media attention than ours since it comes, officially, from a local municipality.  It will be posted on the web site and to the reflector.  Remember, we can't buy this kind of publicity.  Thanks to Tom Koch, W4UOC, for getting the information to the City of Sandy Springs and to Shelia Staton, KD4NKE, for her work on our behalf with the City.

GOTA

Your humble Field Day captain, in all the hub-bub of preparations for Field Day, and in his incredibly finite wisdom, missed a key component of the GOTA station.  We actually need Elmers to work along side the GOTA operators.  Please contact our GOTA captain, Wes Lamboley, W3WL (blamboley@aol.com), to volunteer for this worthwhile endeavor.  Remember, when you Elmer someone, you are ensuring the next generation of ham radio!

Food

Plans for Field Day dinner are well underway.  We need a head count so we know how much food/beverage to procure.  Please contact Lynn Kahn, KJ4DYH, at lkksu@charter.net.  Also, if anyone wants to assist by providing or procuring food/beverage, please contact Lynn or Shelia Staton, KD4NKE at sstaton@mindspring.com.

Also, we can use large ice chests to keep things cold throughout the event.  Please let us know if you have a large (like take camping or to the beach or tailgating) ice chest you can contribute for Field Day.  The more ice chests we have, the more water and other drinks we can keep cold for our operations.

That's it for now.

Thanks and 73,

Ian, AK4IK
